Legends of the Super Heroes DVD Review

Legends of the Super Heroes DVD Review
courtesy of our network site www.DVDLegion.com

Starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin

Available for the FIRST TIME EVER ON DVD, exclusively from the WarnerArchive.com: http://bit.ly/WAC_SuperHeroes

Synopsis: Heroes and villains of DC Comics square off in the two-part, live-action, made-for-TV (with a laugh track!) smackdowns of Legends of the Super Heroes. The Challenge: Batman and Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward of the live-action Batman TV series) lead The Flash, Green Lantern and more JLA members against The Riddler (Frank Gorshin reprising his TV role), Mordru, Weather Wizard and other Doom-dealers. The Legion’s ultimate gambit: trick the heroes into downing a diabolical depowering drink! The Roast: Poking fun beats swapping punches when celebrity host Ed McMahon emcees a rowdy rave-up. Who knew DC Super Heroes and villains packed as much verbal wit as physical grit when not locked in mortal combat? These Legends will leave you laughing.

Review: I was well aware of the old CBS special two-part Legends of the Super Heroes.  Its legendary in fan circles as one of the worst, most campy superhero features of all-time!   I had never actually sat down to watch it though, until it came out on DVD now from the Warner Archive.  I sat with the family and watched in horror as my favorite super heroes were prancing around the screen like lunatics.  This special is not funny...its hilarious!  You have to understand, of course, that it was meant as a parody to begin with.  There is some great jokes and moments that made us laugh out loud...as well as groan.  Half of the costumes are good.  You get Adam West, Burt Ward and Frank Gorshin re-visiting their roles from the 1966 Batman tv show.  Honestly, this special makes that show look like a serious drama!

Overall, this is a great piece of superhero history and definately something any collector should own.  I never thought we'd get an official DVD release of this one, but I'm sure glad that we got to see it in all of it's ....I should say glory, but shame is probably a better term! lol.

A unique Batman Gift!

Last Xmas I decided to get something unique for my wife, it was a Batman: The Animated Series Harley Quinn figure autographed by the artist that did the card art for the toy (and many of the Kenner bat-toys), Al Bigley.  You may know Al from past interviews here on the site.

I wanted to pass along this image of our figure and let you all know that this opportunity exists, Al can sign a number of figures or items, its all on his official website.

I just want to mention that Al didn't ask me to do this, nor did I get any free product from him, I paid like everyone else.  I just know we treasure this collectible and figured some of you other bat-fans might be into it also.

New Batman: Arkham City Video Game Screens

Product Spotlight: Dc Comics: The 75th Anniversary Poster Book

Product Spotlight: Dc Comics: The 75th Anniversary Poster Book

About the Book: Here are 100 of the most important, most incredible, and most bizarre comic-book covers from DC's incredible archives all perforated and ready to display in your apartment, dorm room, or cubicle. From Action Comics #1 and Batman #1 to lesser-known heroes like Mister District Attorney, this oversized compilation features every major milestone in DC's extraordinary history: Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Watchmen, Fables, 100 Bullets, and much more.

On the reverse of each poster are images of related covers and entertaining commentary, often with remarks from the cover artists themselves. Complete with a foreword from longtime DC Comics veteran Paul Levitz, this amazing anthology is a must-have item for any comic-book fan.

Our Take:  We are into any Batman or Dc Comics related book that comes out.  We'll give them all a fair shake.  I actually really enjoyed this DC Comics poster book by Robert Schnakenberg, because it was light reading.  The posters in the oversized book come with perforated seams, so that you can tear them right out and frame or hang them on the wall.  The book features a variety of covers from Superman and Swamp Thing to Batman and Wonder Woman.  The covers all have a vintage feel to them too, its pretty fantastic.

We highly recommend this one, its a great gift for Xmas, but don't forget to pick one up for yourself!
