UPDATE on the Batman Live World Arena Tour

BATMAN LIVE WORLDWIDE ARENA TOUR

Today, June 15, 2011, the UK media was offered an advanced behind-the-scenes preview of the visually stunning live production, BATMAN LIVE world arena tour in London, as Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), DC Entertainment and Nick Grace of Water Lane Productions Ltd (WLP) unveiled key creative elements from the show, with a first look at the start of rehearsals.

The extravagant Gotham City production, based on DC Comics characters and stories, has taken over a giant warehouse in West London as the temporary home for the set of BATMAN LIVE, where the 43-strong cast (made up of talented actors, performers and acrobats) rehearse the spectacular arena show. An impressive custom-made stage, 100-ft bat-shaped LCD video wall and 3D Gotham City set have all been designed especially for the show.

Creative Director Anthony Van Laast said, "It is so exciting to see BATMAN LIVE develop from an initial idea through to a full scale show.  We are in rehearsals now and seeing all the elements of the production come together – automation, programming for the flying sequences, acting calls, acrobatic training, fight choreography, music composition.  This is the thrilling point in the pre-production when all the creative team gets to see their ideas brought to life by our exceptional performing company."

“The world of Batman will be brought to the audience in a larger-than-life setting through this live stage show that will captivate fans and enthrall audiences of all ages,” said Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Acrobats suspended in the air, fighting henchmen and stunning scenery are all part of the BATMAN LIVE experience.  Also unveiled today, is the eye-popping Batmobile.  The aerodynamic, beautifully crafted brand new Batmobile has been designed especially for the show by legendary racing car designer, Professor Gordon Murray, known for designing race cars for some of the most successful teams in the world for Formula One racing, as well as the famous McLaren F1 road car.

Professor Gordon Murray, CEO and Technical Director of Gordon Murray Designs, said of his company's involvement, "We at Gordon Murray Designs are proud to have designed the Batmobile for the BATMAN LIVE show.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to apply advanced materials and concepts to create a truly unique take on one of the world’s most iconic vehicles.”

BATMAN LIVE will tour arenas for the first time ever across the UK and Europe, beginning in summer 2011, and arriving in North America in August 2012.  Opening in Manchester on 19 July 2011 and visiting Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin and Belfast, tickets for BATMAN LIVE are on sale now.

BATMAN LIVE is a live-action, super-heroic spectacle of unprecedented scale that is every bit as human, touching, and inspiring as it is spectacular.

Take Animation Offerings to New Heights
Burbank, Calif., June 14, 2011 – With super heroes, literary legends, and the development of an animation nation, Warner Bros. Consumer Products [WBCP] brings an unrivaled lineup of content support to this year’s Licensing International Expo that will drive its licensing, merchandising and retail business to new heights.

“Content is the cornerstone of a robust consumer products program and we are pleased to be offering our partners a complete foundation of opportunities like never before,” said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “With the offerings we have on tap, licensees and retailers around the world have access to a diverse slate that will allow them to plan for long-term success with our properties.”

A truly heroic film slate dominates Warner Bros. Pictures’ theatrical offerings with characters from the world of DC Comics leading the charge. The highly anticipated Green Lantern is set to light up theaters on June 17, followed by The Dark Knight Rises in summer 2012 and the upcoming Man of Steel. WBCP’s licensing efforts will continue to be led by Mattel, the global master toy licensee for DC Comics.

Beyond the world of DC Comics, theatrical films based on J.K. Rowling’s literary phenomenon, Harry Potter, and the classic by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit, have fans buzzing. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, the final film in the blockbuster series and the world’s most successful entertainment franchise, debuts July 15. Continuing the adventure in Middle-earth, the first in the upcoming two-film adaptation from filmmaker Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, slated for December 2012, will be followed by The Hobbit: There And Back Again in December 2013.

DC Comics’ robust roster is set to explode onto the television screen with the inception of DC Nation, featuring original animated programming produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA). Earlier this year, Cartoon Network, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. announced the creation of this exclusive programming block on Cartoon Network. Debuting in 2012 as a multi-platform franchise, DC Nation will be the exclusive television home for original animated content based upon DC Comics properties. Backed by the production, publishing and marketing resources of Warner Bros., DC Entertainment and Cartoon Network, DC Nation will be populated with event programming, interstitials, exclusive behind-the-scenes segments from theatrical productions, and an insider look into the world of all things DC Comics.
Leading the way for DC Nation is WBA’s new Green Lantern: The Animated Series, featuring all-new CG animated action and debuting in late 2011. WBCP’s all-star DC Comics lineup also includes WBA’s television series Young Justice, for Cartoon Network. And WBCP’s master licensee Mattel will offer a myriad of licensing programs in support of DC Comics’ extensive stable of legendary character properties, such as Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and many other super heroes.

Warner Bros. Animation continues its creative momentum with a host of animated opportunities, including the smash hit The Looney Tunes Show, which is dominating the ratings on Cartoon Network. The show ranks as the #1 series among Boys 6–11 on all of basic cable television in its Tuesdays 8/7c time period and averages more than two million viewers each week. Fans are also eagerly awaiting the debut of the all-new animated television series ThunderCats, only on Cartoon Network this summer. Global master toy licensee Bandai America Incorporated will reinvigorate the nostalgic brand with enthusiasts, and introduce a whole new set of fans to the beloved pop culture staple. Both series will join the lineup with WBA’s current hit series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.

Television licensing is also programmed into WBCP’s diverse lineup, led by today’s hits and yesterday’s classics such as Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory, Pretty Little Liars, Supernatural, Seinfeld and Friends.

From the screen to the page, WBCP also represents DC Entertainment’s licensed publishing business, which licenses the DC Comics Super Heroes (Green Lantern, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman), as well as MAD Magazine and Vertigo properties in partnership with DC Entertainment for books with publishers worldwide.

Global themed entertainment expands the Warner Bros. experience for a worldwide audience, led by Batman Live – a unique action-packed live stage show set to tour arenas around the world. The dynamic collaboration between WBCP, DC Entertainment and Nick Grace of Water Lane Productions Ltd. brings the world of Batman to life for audiences of all ages. Harry Potter continues to enchant a worldwide audience with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, now a must-see destination in Orlando, Florida. Harry Potter: The Exhibition, created in partnership with Global Experience Specialists (GES), also offers fans a firsthand look inside the famous wizard’s magical world with elaborate displays of authentic costumes, props and artifacts in environments from the films. The exhibit currently runs in New York City’s Discovery Times Square before traveling internationally. Additionally, WBCP properties enjoy a strong presence at theme parks worldwide.

Classic properties will also remain a linchpin for WBCP at this year’s Licensing Show. With strong merchandising programs in the works, licensees continue to support beloved franchises including Looney Tunes, Baby Looney Tunes, Tweety, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, and other revered Hanna-Barbera properties.

WBCP is the home of Warner Bros. Pictures’ original classic film library. Timeless classic films include the original The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Caddyshack, The Goonies, and Gremlins, as well as holiday favorites like The Polar Express, Frosty the Snowman, and A Christmas Story, which will also be presented at this year’s show.

WBCP also continues to be the worldwide leader in football/soccer licensing, representing multiple powerhouse brands and the highest profile football tournaments. The company’s portfolio of world-class football franchise properties include: FC Barcelona, Manchester United FC, Juventus FC, Confederação Brasileira de Futebol or CBF, Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación or FMF, and the UEFA Euro 2012. WBCP operates centers of football expertise around the world and is actively engaged in licensing football worldwide.

MAD MEN STAR ELISABETH MOSS GIVES VOICE TO ARISIA IN GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD KNIGHTS

MAD MEN STAR ELISABETH MOSS GIVES VOICE TO ARISIA
IN GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD KNIGHTS

Actress gives feisty, smart performance as newest Green Lantern Corps recruit in
All-New DC Universe Animated Original Movie Coming June 7 to Blu-Ray™, DVD

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss returns to animation as the voice of new recruit Arisia in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, the all-new DC Universe Animated Original Movie coming to Blu-Ray™, DVD, On Demand and for Download June 7, 2011.

Long before she caught the TV viewing world’s attention as Peggy Olsson in AMC’s hit series Mad Men, Moss stood before a microphone to give voice to characters in such landmark series as Batman: The Animated Series and Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs, as well as the animated holiday special Frosty Returns.

Moss continued working in animation – with roles in series and specials like Freakazoid! and It’s Spring Training, Charlie Brown! – as her on-screen career began to blossom, eventually stepping away from voiceovers to act in a succession of popular series, most notably The West Wing, Invasion and Picket Fences.

Now Moss has undertaken the task of bringing to animated life Arisia, a young recruit forced into her first mission on just her third day as a Green Lantern. Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, and distributed by Warner Home Video, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights weaves six legendary stories of the Green Lantern Corps’ rich mythology around preparations for an attack by an ancient enemy. As the battle approaches, Hal Jordan (voiced by Castle’s Nathan Fillion) mentors Arisia in the history of the Green Lantern Corps, telling tales of Avra (the first Green Lantern) and several of Hal’s comrades – including Kilowog, Abin Sur, Laira and Mogo. In the end, Arisia must rise to the occasion to help Hal, Sinestro and the entire Green Lantern Corps save the universe from the destructive forces of Krona.

Recording her lines on a day off from the Mad Men set, Moss had time for a few questions about her role, working in animation, and the importance of great footwear.

QUESTION:
What’s the essence of Arisia’s story in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights?

ELISABETH MOSS:
It’s sort of Arisia’s first day on the job, so there’s a huge learning curve for her. She’s just been basically plucked out of class on her home planet and thrown into this intergalactic police force – just as the universe is under attack. So it’s all very overwhelming for her. But she’s smart and courageous, so she rises to the occasion.

QUESTION:
You get years to develop your character on shows like Mad Men and The West Wing. Was it difficult to have just one day in Arisia’s shoes?

ELISABETH MOSS:
Well, I really love Arisia’s boots – they’re very cool, I like their style – so I like being in her shoes (she laughs). Animation is great because you’re part of a large team effort. I’m only required to provide my voice for a single character, and to act that role while the director and writers and animators create the entire story. So it’s fun to see that all come together, especially to see an animated sort-of version of yourself.

QUESTION:
What was it about Arisia that attracted you to the character?

ELISABETH MOSS:
I like that she’s strong, and at the same time she’s a pretty girl. But she really adapts well to her first day on the job, and she has a lot of responsibility. I think she’s a nice, strong female character.

QUESTION:
You’ve been away from animation for many years. What prompted the return?

ELISABETH MOSS:
It sounded like a cool thing to do, and it sounded like a lot of fun – something great to do on a day off from Mad Men.

I’ve always wanted to do more animation. I think it’s a really fun job; Obviously, it has a certain ease to it, but at the same time it can be difficult. There’s technical things that I’m not very good at or that I’m just learning, things about your voice and making clicking sounds and (using) the headphones … but it’s fun to learn and it’s definitely something I’d like to get to do more of.

QUESTION:
Do you find animation is more liberating than on-screen acting?

ELISABETH MOSS:
What’s liberating about animation is that you can show up in your jeans and t-shirt and not worry about make-up or hair style. You can show up in your pajamas if you want. That’s tremendously liberating, as opposed to going through three hours of hair and make-up before going before the camera for my day job. So it’s much more relaxing.

QUESTION:
So you’d like to do more voiceovers. Are you seeking any particular roles?

ELISABETH MOSS:
I’m not familiar enough with all the comic book characters to choose. I’m just happy to be asked to do anything. I couldn’t necessarily pick one – I would just like to be involved with whatever somebody thought I was suitable for.

CASTLE, FIREFLY STAR NATHAN FILLION LEADS VOICE CAST AS HAL JORDAN IN GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD KNIGHTS

Entertainment Weekly’s “Geek God” returns to the animated superhero realm in
All-New DC Universe Animated Original Movie Coming June 7 to Blu-Ray™, DVD

Entertainment Weekly dubbed him a “Geek God.” TV Guide seems to document his every move. Firefly/Serenity fans follow him in any direction he goes.

And all the while, Nathan Fillion contines to go his own way, his boyish charm and “ruggedly handsome” exterior constantly reflecting the enchanting attitude of the proverbial kid-in-a-candy-store.

Make no mistake, Nathan Fillion is having the time of his life.

Fillion’s primetime series Castle is enjoying its best ratings, cracking Nielsen’s Top 10 as the popular ABC drama culminated its third season. And despite the five-plus-days-a-week grind of 14-plus hours on set, Fillion still finds time to fulfill his own guilty geek pleasures.

Thus, on the Sunday of the Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend in 2010, the Edmonton-born actor could be found recording the voice of Hal Jordan for Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, an all-new DC Universe Animated Original Movie coming to Blu-Ray™, DVD, On Demand and for Download June 7, 2011.

As the battle approaches, Hal Jordan mentors new recruit Arisia in the history of the Green Lantern Corps, telling tales of Avra, Kilowog, Abin Sur, Laira and Mogo. In the end, Arisia must rise to the occasion to help Hal, Sinestro and the entire Green Lantern Corps save the universe from the destructive forces of Krona.

Fillion has starred in several primetime television series, including Desperate Housewives, Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He has also developed a popular cult following as a pair of Joss Whedon’s heroic captains: Capt. Mal Reynolds in the space-western series Firefly and follow-up film, Serenity; and Captain Hammer in Whedon’s internet sensation Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.  Fillion returns to the DC Universe after his successful turn as Steve Trevor in the animated film Wonder Woman, having also performed voice work on Justice League, Robot Chicken, The Venture Bros., and several Halo video games.

The ever-genuine Fillion spent some time following his initial recording session to discuss comic book justice, the perils of space travel, his love of comic books and the origin story behind his famous Green Lantern t-shirt. Read on …

QUESTION:
Among the superhero role play games of your childhood, did you ever pretend you were the Green Lantern?

NATHAN FILLION:
As a child, when you're pretending you're different super heroes, Green Lantern was the easiest because all you needed to light the fire in the imagination was the ring.  Superman, you need a cape; Spiderman, you need a full face mask.  That wasn’t tough to come by in a winter town like where I’m from, but they’re just too hot to wear in the summer. So to be Green Lantern, all you needed to do is suck a lifesaver down to the right size, and to make sure it's a lime one – slip it on your finger, and you were good.

QUESTION:
What is it about Green Lantern that most appeals to you?

NATHAN FILLION:
As a kid, what I liked about Green Lantern was that he could do anything – anything you could think of.  It's like “Wow, all I need is a giant mallet, or a catapult circa 1200s,” and suddenly he had it. I just thought that would be pretty cool to have anything you could kind of imagine.  Imagination was always a big thing for me.

QUESTION:
You fit comfortably into animated super hero roles. Why do you think you keep getting chosen to play these comic book legends?

NATHAN FILLION:
I will say that I've been very fortunate.  I can't tell you why people are willing to offer me the opportunity, but I can say how it pleases me because as a kid collecting comic books, I had a great time with the way it kind of lights the fire in the imagination.

I always thought I had an overdeveloped sense of justice. Now looking back on my comic book days, my world kind of was formed around comic book justice. I think I have a very strong sense of comic book justice. Maybe that has something to do with how you take on a role.  I mean, I'm steeped in the history of these characters.  I know it and I love it.

QUESTION:
Between Firefly/Serenity and Green Lantern, you seem to spend a lot of acting time in space. Did you ever have desires to be an actual astronaut?

NATHAN FILLION:
I fear space the same way I fear drowning.  I would think it would be a little bit claustrophobic. Sure, you have the vastness of space, but yet you're probably going to be in some kind of little miniature (capsule) and, you know, anything could go wrong.  I mean. if you're scuba diving, let's say you're 10 feet underwater – if something goes terribly, terribly wrong, you've got 10 feet to swim to the surface, and you're good.  If you're in space, you're boned.  That's like being in a submarine at the bottom of the ocean.  Uh-oh … Oops. (he laughs) Things you don't want to hear in space or in submarines: “Oops.”

QUESTION:
Castle is a runaway hit. You’re a cover boy for national magazines with great regularity. There’s never been greater demand for Nathan Fillion. How do you stay humble through all this adoration?

NATHAN FILLION:
I'll tell you there sure is nothing like being an actor and having something to do every day. Get up 5:00 a.m. – I’ve got someplace to go and I’ve got a place I need to be.  I’ve got stuff I gotta do.  I’ve got stories I need to tell.  This career that I've chosen, I'm employed gainfully in it – so I’m living the dream every day. That's a good feeling.  It does good things for how you feel about your choices.

There was a period of time, I'll say it was 1998 approximately, where I didn't work for nearly a year.  I was really questioning my judgment.  What have I done?  I've made a colossal error in judgment. I'm paying my rent on credit.  What am I gonna do?

It's a much, much nicer feeling to know that you're doing something -- that you're playing some music that people want to hear. So I'm gonna play these notes – you tell me if you like them and we'll keep playing if you keep liking them.  That's a good feeling.  It's nice to walk down the street and have someone stop and politely say “I love your show.”  That’s always great. As opposed to doing plays, where there’s immediate feedback, you don’t get that so much in television. So it’s really nice to hear. It doesn’t get old.

QUESTION:
You’re on the Castle set at least five days a week, upwards of 14 hours each day. Given all that work, what makes you take time – on a Sunday of a holiday weekend – to record the voice of an animated superhero?

NATHAN FILLION:
I take the time to (voice characters in DCU films) exactly for the reason that it's fun. I get a call saying “Hey, how would you like to come on down to record Green Lantern?” And I’m asking back, “Can we squeeze it in on a Sunday because that's pretty much my only day off?” I want to make it work because I love doing it. More than that, I love being part of this lore. These are great characters – you’ve got Green Lantern, you have Superman, you have Batman, you have the Flash, all these wonderful  pieces of American pop culture. And now I've got a little piece.  I can say, “Oh yeah, I was Green Lantern for a DVD movie.” Not a lot of people can say that. “Oh, Steve Trevor? Funny you should mention him.” (he laughs) It may sound silly, but it means something to me.

QUESTION:
You have been seen – on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, walking around Comic-Con on a Saturday, at your initial Green Lantern recording session – wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt. Did you own that shirt before being cast as Hal Jordan for Green Lantern: Emerald Knights?

NATHAN FILLION:
Debbie Zoller is the head of my makeup department on Castle. She saw that fan-made Green Lantern trailer and thought the t-shirt would be an appropriate Christmas present. And I wholeheartedly agree with her. I’ve been known to wear a few superhero shirts … and where better than a Green Lantern recording session to wear it today? So thank you Debbie – I told you it would come in handy someday!
