Product Spotlight: Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Soundtrack CD

About the CD: La-La Land Records, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics present the original motion picture score to the DC Universe Animated Original Movie JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE FLASHPOINT PARADOX. Acclaimed composer Frederik Widemann (GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES) seizes the opportunity to work with a live orchestra and unleashes a stupendous superhero score that propels this action-packed, fan-favorite DC Comics storyline. Fans of Widemann's GREEN LATNERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES scores will be delighted with what the composer has delivered here. Produced by the composer and MV Gerhard, and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this special release is limited to 2000 units and features liner notes from the composer and the filmmakers.

Our Take: The DC Universe animated films have been bringing adult fans a lot of joy over the past few years.  There are those of us that don't want the magic to end after an hour and a half and great soundtrack CDs like this one from the good folks at La-La Land records are just the ticket!  The music from this animated feature film is absolutely epic.  The inside liner notes feature notes from the composter and screenwriter, along with some great images from the film.  This one is limited to only 2000 copies, so I would advise picking up a copy soon!

Review: Gotham Fails To Impress

I have been a Batman fan all my life.  I've been running Legions of Gotham for 11 years and never have I had to give such a grim review of a Batman related property.

I went into Gotham with high hopes. I was looking for a dark and gritty crime drama that centers around the universe and characters that I know and love. What I got was some pretty poor acting, unnecessary character changes and and overall sense of confusion about why we even need this show at all.

I have seen other reviews criticizing Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney. In my opinion she actually delivers the best and most believable performance in the cast. I had high hopes for Donal Logue as Bullock and was very disappointed with his lackluster and rather empy performance.  I saw him play a shady creepy in Sons of Anarchy and it was amazing.  He clearly phoned this one in.  James Gordon is intense and noble, sometimes overly so, but also lacks likability.

The show tries to have a hard edge with some cursing, lesbian lovers and a few instances of blood and violence, but it comes off more like Smallville in an overcast city setting. If you stuck with Smallville through thick and thin you will have no problem with this show whatsoever. If you felt critical of Smallville at times because it was a bit hoaky and over the top, then Gotham won't be your cup of tea.

I guess my overall question is why? We haven't had Batman in a series on the air since the 1966 show.  I feel safe in saying that we're long overdue for an actual Batman show, but they seem to be determined to deny us. Why don't they think Batman needs his own series? I'm baffled by this idea. I remember back in the day they wouldn't allow Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul on the cartoon "The Batman", because they were due to be in Batman Begins. WB felt that viewers would become confused. Thats honestly how they feel about us, like we're all so stupid we can't tell the difference between the television and film versions of the character, thus we get Gotham..a story about everyone but Batman. Bruce is in the show, but so far he's an afterthought.  If we had already gotten an amazing Batman show I would say sure, give us a prequel..let us see how it all began, but we haven't even gotten that yet.

I love these characters, but I only love them in relation to their interactions with Batman. I don't care about James Gordon, new cop in town...I care about James Gordon, new cop in town that will work with Batman. The gap in time before that happens just isn't that interesting to me. I will continue to tune in and hope for the best. Smallville did get better the last few seasons, but that took a decade.  This show might have flown previously, but next to epic television ventures like Arrow, it just pales in comparison.

Bruce Timm Justice League Toon to be 3-Part Machinima Web Series!

This one is coming in 2015 as a three-part web episode series just before Batman v Superman debuts in theaters!  Bruce W. Timm and Alan Burnett are back together again!  Glory days Bat-Fans...glory days.

In the first programming collaboration since Warner Bros.’ investment in Machinima earlier this year, it was announced today that Machinima has greenlit the new animated shortform series “Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles,” from Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett (both producers on “Batman: The Animated Series”). The digital series is based on Justice League: Gods & Monsters, an original animated film executive produced by Timm and co-produced by Burnett that will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment later in 2015. “Chronicles” will focus on alternate versions of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

“Ever since we announced the Warner Bros. strategic investment, we have been looking for a new and exciting way to tap into the company’s unmatched content. With ‘Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles,’ Machinima will be the very first place fans can experience a new vision for DC Comics’ beloved Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman characters. In addition, we have built a first-of-its-kind package for brands to engage with these characters to reach Machinima’s elusive audience,” said Chad Gutstein, Machinma’s CEO.

“Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles” marks the first project from Warner Bros.’ newly-formed digital content production unit, headed up by Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series.

Sam Register said: “We couldn’t be happier to be announcing our first new digital series today, and we’re even more excited that it’s a collaboration with such accomplished storytellers as Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett, who have been responsible for some of the most innovative and creative DC Universe projects. We can’t wait for fans to have a chance to see the world they have created when ‘Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles’ debuts on Machinima next year.”

“We are committed to delivering DC Entertainment’s extensive line-up of world-class characters and stories to audiences across all platforms and formats,” stated DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson. “’Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles’ is an exciting opportunity to bring alternate versions of DC Comics’ iconic Justice League characters to Machinima, and we look forward to bringing this new animated shortform series to life with our partners across Warner Bros.”

“Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles” explores a newly conceived reality in the DC Universe where Justice League members Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are much darker versions of the Super Heroes that people think they know. The episodes are expected to debut on Machinima in spring 2015, weeks before the launch of the film.
